Nxt Museum is the home of New Media Art in Amsterdam. We are passionate about art, technology, science and sound and are on a mission to push the boundaries of what a museum can be.

The Senior Operations Manager is responsible for running an efficient and smooth day to day museum operation – for processes within the office and the museum experience teams as well as managing the museum’s facilities. 

Key aspects of the role are overseeing and optimising the in-museum visitor experience (ie. visitor flow, capacities, cost, etc.); Managing the operations budget; Managing the ops team (ie. Experience Manager, Office & Facilities, Human Resources) and overseeing the facilities management. As Senior Operations Manager you will be responsible for managing partners (ie. Cleaning, Security, etc.) and work closely with our HR partner on HR-strategies, administration and DEI programs. We are looking for an operational expert that loves art, technology and humans and thrives within a fast paced work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage Operational teams (5FTE);

  • Operations (Office, Facility, IT)

  • Production (Exhibition & Events)

  • Human Resources (HR partners & Admin)

  • Company Administration

  1. Operational planning;

  • Planning and implementing processes to improve quality, productivity and performance within the museum organisation

  1. Develop, implement and report on your departmental strategy;

  2. Managing the operations budget (planning, reporting, forecasting);

  3. Dealmaking with vendors;

  4. Overseeing and implementing financial processes in the company such as:

  • Support on quotations, invoices and budgets for exhibitions and events.

  • HR administration and payroll

  • Financial processes such as incoming and outgoing invoices

  1. Work together with the different teams on safety, permits, maintenance and government regulations with regards to events and cultural institutions.

  2. Work together with our producers on the production of internal programming (ADE, Museumnacht) and (large scale) B2B programming.

  3. Cross departmental collaboration with the other departments and managers such as Marketing, Sales & Partnerships and Arts & Culture.

  4. Implementation of HR strategies with a focus on DEI, employee engagement and HR development.

  5. Work closely with our partners with regards to financial administration and the HR administration. 

Who are you?

  • 7+ years work experience in a relevant sector (ie., cultural sector, events, entertainment, etc.)

  • Previous work experience lies within the operational field of an organisation.

  • Multiple years of experience in directly managing a team of multiple people.

  • Used to develop departmental strategies

  • Focus on visitor experience (Nxt Museum is open 363 days a year and is continuously looking to optimise the visitor experience).

  • Understanding of safety, (IT) infrastructure, vendor management, maintenance and office policies.

  • You can translate innovative creative ideas in practical operational programs. 

  • Strong project manager capable of switching between the different aspects of operations.

  • Financial understanding of what’s needed to run a museum. You are able to translate actual numbers into new strategies and forecasts.

  • Willing to work outside regular hours

  • Solution Driven 

  • You like working with people and technology;

  • You speak Dutch and English fluently.
